[ xie lian ignores the ghost fire telling him he doesn't have to, most days. at one point, he simply tells him he will not hear a single similar remark again, because he is doing it because he wants to, and because he is unbelievably, unbelievably stubborn.

(allow me to believe in you, for a change, actually, were his words of choice.)

and now, this work has borne fruit. xie lian has seen hua cheng - san lang - at this height, at this age, even if he was just a mere fragment of a watcher, and even back in xian le. his heart is swollen and warm in his chest, a hearth in the center of his ribcage, and for a moment, it feels almost hard to breathe.

i did it, san lang.

his fingers stroke quietly over the top of ruoye's head for a moment longer, a picture more of serene grace than he really is at the moment - still threadbare, still a little torn at the seams, but over all trying not to completely overwhelm this version of san lang with all of his memories of the place he was before - and nods to him. ]

Come: sit with me, now that you can, brave soldier. [ a pause - his smile warms a little further. ] San Lang.
